Worms: Know your limits!
Most owners know that their pets need protecting from parasitic worms, but do not always know how to treat them or how often they should be wormed. Worms are a hidden danger to your pet and pose a real health risk, not just to them but to family members as well. Did you know that parasites can be transmitted to humans from public parks, play areas and even directly from your pet?

Throughout April 2009, we are running a worming awareness initiative where you can pop in and talk to our ‘Worm Patrol’ – trained practice staff. The initiative specifically aims to remind you about worming and give you guidance on how to treat, when and with what. We will also weigh and assess your pet and give you some useful, practical advice on how to follow a comprehensive healthcare regime.

So, ask our Worm Patrol about worming when you are next in practice or feel free to drop in and someone will be more than happy to help.

Alternatively, phone your nearest practice.

Payment policy
From January 2009 we will be requesting payment at the time on all horse visits. We have had to adopt these measures in an attempt to curtail spiraling bad debts and the "credit crunch". When you phone the practice to arrange a visit the receptionist will inform you that now payment will be expected at the time of the visit. Please do not be offended by this new policy, we value our clients greatly. It is the increasing minority of bad debtors who have forced us to change our business terms. If you have any problems with the new arrangement please contact Paul or John.

Lungworm Threat to UK Pets

There is now a threat to the UK dog population in the form of lungworm (Angiostrongylus vasorum). Recently reported in the national press, this parasite is carried by slugs, snails and even frogs. The problem arises when dogs purposefully or accidentally eat these pests when rummaging through undergrowth, eating grass, drinking from puddles or outdoor water bowls, or pick them up from their toys.

Could YOUR pet be stressed?
Some stress in the lives of dogs and cats is normal, but it can become excessive and lead to behaviour problems. Change can be a major source of stress for many pets – they can find it difficult to adapt to variations in their environment or routine.
