From Budgies to Bearded Dragons, Chinchillas to Cornsnakes, Shires Vets is happy to treat all species of exotic pets (except venomous snakes) as well as domestic poultry and waterfowl.
Shires Vets Exotic Pet Department is led by Jessica Hulme who is completing her GP Cert in exotic species and has spent 2 weeks working alongside the zoo vets at Twycross Zoo to further her knowledge (and having a great time with Elephants and Monkeys!).
Jessica is currently the vet for Gentleshaw Wildlife Centre at Eccleshall where her patients include Kinkajous, Capuchin Monkeys and Macaques and she has also been appointed as the zoo vet for the new Peak Wildlife Park near Leek where her charges include Penguins, Wallabies and Capybara.
Jessica is happy to see cases at either the Eaton Park or Stone surgery. If possible, please download the relevant history form (Avian / reptiles) and bring it along to your consultation or email it in advance to either Eaton Park or Stone.
If required, we can hospitalize most common exotic pets at our Stone surgery.
Emma Hall, Head Nurse at Eaton Park, has her C&G Certificate in Veterinary Nursing of Exotic Species. Emma is available for consultations about behaviour and husbandry of exotic species at Eaton Park. Please telephone for an appointment.
Tortoise hibernation can be a stressful time for owners and Shires Vets are happy to assist you with this process. Using controlled temperature conditions we can hibernate your tortoise in the safest way possible and return him or her to you once eating and active again.
In order to take advantage of this service please speak to Emma or Jess by mid August at the latest as we need to check your tortoise over and run health checks before accepting them for hibernation.
Contact us for more information or to make an appointment.
We have included some care sheets on the more common exotic pets that we see so please feel free to download them. Do not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions.
