Veterinary Surgeons

Will Jeffels   

Will is a Clinical Director in the practice. His interests include feline medicine, cardiology and ultrasound.
Will has three dogs, Bolly and Tatty the mad Springer Spaniels and Poppy, a Norfolk Terrier, two cats, two horses (which he claims no responsibility for), ducks and chickens!

 

Jessica Hulme BVM&S MRCVS         

Jessica is a Clinical Director in the practice. Her interests include dentistry and exotic pets, providing veterinary services to two local zoos.
Jessica has undertaken a 5 day advanced dentistry course in the USA and is now able to offer state of the art dental treatment including crowns, fillings, orthodontics and much more as well as keyhole surgery of exotic pets.
Outside of Shires Jess has three horses, a Dobermann, two rowdy terriers, a tortoise, various sheep and chickens to keep her busy.

 

Charlie Forman   

Charlie qualified from Bristol University in 2007. After gaining mixed species experience in West Yorkshire for two years he joined Shires Vets in 2009 as a small animal vet.
He particular enjoys canine and feline medicine and is has completed an RCVS accredited certificate in advanced veterinary practice (CertAVP). In 2015 he joined the partnership at Shires Vets and is now Clinical Director
Charlie and his wife live with ‘Heidi’ and Amber, the best border terriers in Staffordshire (his words) and ‘Wilma’, their noisy cat. He switches off from work by walking the dogs, horse riding and ballroom and latin dancing!

 

 

Geraint Davies   

Geraint graduated from Glasgow Veterinary School in 2003. After spending three years as a farm vet in Snowdonia he joined the Shires team to concentrate on small animal work in 2006.
Geraint spends most of his time at the Eaton Park practice and has a keen interest in all aspects of surgery, completing the General Practitioner Certificate in Small Animal Surgery in 2012. Most recently this interest has led Geraint to become competent in minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery, helping animals to recover more quickly from their operations.
In his spare time he loves getting into the great outdoors for a range of sports with his wife Kate and their two young sons. The perpetual student, Geraint is also now studying for his GP Certificate in Ophthalmology

 

Sarah Hopes         

Sarah graduated from London in 2007 and joined Shires straight from university and has been here ever since
She is usually at Stone on Thursdays and Fridays where she enjoys all aspects of Small animal medicine and surgery.

 

Lucy Hughes 

Lucy qualified from Cambridge in 2006 and after two years in mixed practice, has been part of the small animal team at Shires since 2008.  Her main clinical interest is in ophthalmology (eyes) and she has undertaken extensive further training in this area.  She is based at the Stone surgery where she is happy to see second opinion eye cases.  She is has been awarded the RCVS certificate in small animal medicine. 
Away from work, Lucy is married with two young daughters.  She enjoys long walks, growing vegetables in the garden and she is a keen amateur artist when she can find the time!  

 

James French

James joined Shires Vets in 2013 after working in East Yorkshire as a mixed vet. He now focuses exclusively on companion animals and enjoys all aspects of veterinary work but particularly canine/feline medicine, he is currently studying for his Medicine Certificate. He has a little border terrier called Maggie and a rather naughty cat called Dave.

Emma Hall   

Head Nurse / Surgery Manager       

Emma has been with the practice for nearly 17 years, being sold as fixtures and fittings when Oeppens was brought by Shires in 2006.
She has many post nursing qualifications, including a Graduate Diploma in Clinical Veterinary Nursing of which only 30 nurses in the country hold. Other qualifications held are Certificate in Dentistry, Certificate in Exotic Nursing, Certificate in Companion Animal Behaviour and she is an Assessor for student nurse training.
She enjoys all aspect of nursing and her areas of interest are:
•    Dentistry
•    Exotics
•    Nutrition
•    Behaviour, including puppy parties
•    Emergency and critical care
•    Surgical/medical nursing
•    Anaesthesia
•    Nurse clinics
Outside work, Emma has 2 dogs, Parsley the Border Terrier and Willow the Labrador, and a female spur thighed tortoise called Gary. Her hobbies include walking, running, climbing and spending time with family and friends.

 

 

Sarah Barnes   

Sarah has been with us at Shires since she qualified in 2006 and is aSenior Nurse at the Stone surgery. Sarah enjoys all aspects of medical and surgical nursing and has completed additional training in diabetes management and rabbit nursing care and is particularly keen to promote rabbit welfare.  Sarah enjoys carrying out nurse clinics and her particular area of interest is the training of student nurses as she is a qualified clinical coach.
Outside work Sarah has a two young daughters, a very energetic Boxer X and riding and caring for her horse to keep her busy.


   

Sam Lockett   

Sam has been with us since 1996 and spent 3 years prior to this popping in on occasion on work experience. She has gained vast experience in all aspects of nursing in this time and has dedicated her whole career to working here at Shires Vets. She has an interest in running various clinics to include

•   weight management
•   dental healthcare
•   senior healthcare
•   bereavement counselling

 

 

Pam Walklett       

Pamela qualified as a Veterinary nurse in 2009 and has worked here for 9 years. Since qualifying she has gained a certificate in canine and feline behaviour ans is now Head Nurse at the Stone Surgery
Her main roles within the nursing team include making sure our in house laboratory runs smoothly so that we can provide fast and accurate blood and urine analysis, providing individual care to all our patients and running weekly puppy parties at the Stone surgery.
Outside the practice she enjoys baking cakes and often use the team as guinea pigs for which they never seem to complain!

 

Christine Statham

Christine is currently on maternity leave. She is a registered veterinary nurse having trained with Shires Vets when she first joined us in 2005. She is involved in all aspects of general nursing but particularly enjoys been in the theatre - preparing animals for their operations and monitoring anaesthetics.
Outside work Christine enjoys spending time with family and friends and always tries to make time for a weekly swim!


   

Claire Edwards   

Claire is currently on maternity leave, having rejoined us in Nov 2012 after a brief time at another practice. She has been nursing for many years and brings a lot of knowledge and skills to the nursing team as well as a bubbly personality.
Claire has completed her assessor training course.
She enjoys all aspect of nursing and her areas of interest are:
•    Nurse clinics
•    Adolescence clinics
•    Surgical/medical nursing
•    Anaesthesia
•    In-patient care
Outside work Claire enjoys horse riding, outdoor activities and going to the gym. She has a Springer Spaniel called Finch and her partner has 3 dogs for which she claims no responsibility!

 

Joanne Taylor   

Joanne joined us in 2006 after many years working at another stoke on trent practice. She has a wealth of knowledge and experience and is a very valuable member of our nursing team and is main face of our Eccleshall team
Jo has completed many courses to increase her knowledge and skills over the years. She is very passionate about nurse clinics and is keen to get started.
Jo is responsible for all insurance claims within the practice and is always happy to help should you have any queries.
She enjoys all aspect of nursing and her areas of interest are:
•    Nurse clinics
•    Senior pet care
•    Anaesthesia
•    Nutrition
Outside work, Jo has a young son who keeps her busy with his many activities. She enjoys walking, outside activities, supporting Tottenham and has an interest in birds of prey.

 

Catherine Bott

Catherine  qualified with a BSc (Hons) in Veterinary Nursing from Middlesex University in 2009 and has been with Shires since April 2015. She has a keen interest in surgical nursing and wound management and is kept busy at home with her young daughter and Bingo her 2 year old female Lurcher who needs lots of exercise!

 

 

Regan Hill

Regan has been with us as a student nurse during her studies at Harper Adams University and she now joins us full time and is keen to develop her skills as a qualified nurse. Regan's particular areas of interest are surgical nursing and inpatient care.
Regan is also a qualified dog groomer and outside work she enjoys walking Dylan her Springer Spaniel and socialising with family and friends.
