• Veterinary EMS students

We are currently accepting applications for EMS placements at Shires Vets – here’s some more information about what a placement might look like for you at our practice.

EMS student experience

At Shires Vets, we are happy to take on EMS Students from all training stages.

Opportunities available for EMS students and working hours

We are a welcoming bunch who really enjoy teaching students. We have 5 small animal branches, so there is plenty of choice for location when gaining hands-on experience from our Associates. We are keen to get students involved across all areas of practice, whether that be placing IV catheters, taking blood samples, or scrubbing in on surgeries.

Students will be working on the rota between 8.15am and 6pm Monday to Friday.

What do we expect from our EMS students and what can they expect in return

We expect an EMS student to be keen and enthusiastic, wanting to get stuck in with learning, developing their skills and working well with the team.

In return, we will get students involved in all aspects of primary care vetting!

Depending on their stage of training, we will help with areas such as animal handling, history taking and case management.

Travel and accommodation

Due to the lack of public transport, we recommend students travel by car to our sites in Stafford, Eaton Park, Eccleshall and Gnosall.

Our Stone branch, however, is easily accessible by public transport. A bus (101 Hanley) runs from Stafford railway station to Eccleshall Road Shops taking approximately 30 minutes. It is then a 0.5 mile walk to the practice.

As a practice, we are unable to provide accommodation for students. However, we can make local recommendations for places to stay in the area if required.
